Today we can finally release TV-Browser 4.2. The release took a little longer because the changes to Java 11 had to be tested to make sure everything works fine.
Windows users will now get a new form of TV-Browser packages. It's no longer needed to install a JRE on the system because TV-Browser will be shipped with it's own JRE that only contains the needed functions, so it's much smaller than a system wide JRE.
For users with other operation systems all keeps the same, just that TV-Browser now needs a Java 11 JRE to run.
Of course TV-Browser 4.2 also contains new features and bug fixes, espacially those who use high definition screens will finallly be able to use TV-Browser. A full list of the changes can be found in the changelog.
TV-Browser for Android 0.7 vP final is now available publicly at GooglePlay (if you decide to use the GooglePlay variant please consider rating it at GooglePlay). It is customized to work with Android 8 also. At the same time the free variant of TV-Browser for Android 0.7 was also published at GitHub.
It's not possible to install both variants on one device, you have to settle for one variant. You also cannot switch between variants without setting up the new installed variant again. But you can backup your settings, channels, Favorites and I don't want to see list with the help of the synchronization function and import that backup in any variant of TV-Browser.
For easy update of the free variant you can install the TV-Browser UpdatePlugin, it will search for new versions of TV-Browser regularly. To install TV-Browser free for the first time, it's also recommended to use the TV-Browser UpdatePlugin.
Today TV-Browser has reached it's 15th birthday. To celebrate this occasion TV-Browser is back on Google Play thanks to Thorsten Giesecke.
Since it was necessary to release it as a new app at Google Play (with some limitations compared to the free version) it's currently only available for beta testers, but everybody can become a beta tester, just follow the link: become a beta tester of TV-Browser vP. To install the beta version you further have to deinstall the current TV-Browser app on your device.
To make sure your data can be restored, use the synchronization function of TV-Browser to upload your channels, favorites and settings configuration of the installed TV-Browser app.
If you prefer to keep your current (free) version of TV-Browser without limitations you can also test the new beta version with manually downloading and installing it on your device. In the future a plugin will be available that checks for new versions of the free TV-Browser and will be able to download and install it without you having to do it manually.
TV-Browser 4.0.1 mostly fixes bugs of the previous version. But new features like the automatically resize of the reminder window are also included.
TV-Browser 4.0.1 now bsically supports Java 9 mit, which means that TV-Browser now can be started with Java 9 also. TV-Browser still is based on Java 8, which still is the recommended Java version to use with TV-Browser.
To the downloadDue to many suggestions for improvement and the intensive work of the tester, we can present the newest TV-Browser to you. TV-Browser 4 contains many improvements like the new Reminder dialog or the highlighting of the channel column in the program table, when a channel was selected. Bugs were fixed also, so TV-Browser should be more stable than ever.
TV-Browser 4 now need a Java 8 runtime environment, but that also means that TV-Browser now uses the new functions of Java 8, which make TV-Browser 4, even though it has more features, smaller than the previous version.
To the downloadTV-Browser 3.4.4 fixes bugs of the previous versions. New channels are now searched automatically on a regular base and changes will be shown directly, broken filters are easily recognizable, separators can be added to the channel list and the search contains a new type "Whole term" which allows to search for whole words and term without finding programs with parts of the term. The first day of the week is now configurable.
TV-Browser 3.4.4 will probably be the last version that supports Java 6, the next version will depend on Java 8.
